The Power of Instructional Materials Data

Hi, Friend,

The 2024 Nation’s Report Card, which released earlier this week, provides a critical snapshot of declining student performance trends nationwide, with especially alarming outcomes for students who were already performing below grade level. These results reinforce the urgency of using data to drive informed decisions that shape student outcomes.

High-quality data is about more than just numbers – it serves as the foundation of informed decision-making. Without visibility into what curricula students have access to, it is hard to fully understand the opportunities or barriers shaping their outcomes.

As education leaders work to improve outcomes for students, using data to understand the instructional materials selected by districts nationwide is critical. This data becomes information, defining the landscape - the market conditions - in which instructional decisions are made.

Our shared goal is an education system where quality materials reach the students who need them most. Clear and accessible information will be one key to advancing equity, improving outcomes, and building a stronger, more informed education ecosystem.
