Mapping Recent K-5 Curriculum Selection Trends in California
Hi Friend,
California's impending math curriculum adoption in 2025, the first of its kind since 2014, marks a pivotal moment in education. This milestone is poised to expand access to high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) for over 4 million students statewide. Beyond shaping California's educational landscape, these curricular decisions set a national standard, ensuring more equitable access to high-quality materials for all students.
As key stakeholders in curriculum selection, K-12 district leaders play a vital role in the decision-making process. To ensure preparedness for this process, it's imperative to leverage resources that explore current market dynamics and the far-reaching implications of embracing HQIM.
That is why we're excited to share our latest math market report, "Moving Ahead: Mapping Recent K-5 Curriculum Selection Trends in California", where we highlight new 2023-24 data about the high-quality math choices being made now by California districts, with a specific focus on K-5 core materials. Report findings reveal that while districts in California have made strides in adopting math HQIM in recent years, those with a significant population of multilingual learners still face barriers to accessing quality-aligned math curriculum.
The forthcoming adoption represents a critical opportunity to improve educational outcomes and mitigate resource disparities, particularly for historically underserved students.
As one of the partners of Project Unicorn, we invite you to participate in the 2024 School System Data Survey (SSDS).
The brief survey forms the basis of the annual State of the Sector report which is designed to help the education sector better understand current K-12 school system capabilities and infrastructure for leveraging education data. The individual survey will help you assess your school network’s current data ecosystem AND help provide information about the field to policymakers, edtech vendors, and school districts.
Survey participants who complete the survey by April 30, 2024, are entered into a raffle to win one of 20 $150 Amazon gift cards and can review their results with free personalized resources and technical support from the Unicorn team.
The survey takes 15-20 minutes to complete and will close by April 30, 2024.
This collaboration underscores our ongoing commitment to ensuring equitable educational outcomes for historically underserved students. Together, CEMD and OBC at SEF are focused on shaping the future of K-12 education for generations to come.
