High-quality curriculum is vital to student learning and outcomes in math. Yet we have far too little information about student access to this resource nationally.
In K-8 Math Curriculum Quality: The State of District-Led Selection, the Center for Education Market Dynamics shines much-needed light on the landscape of high-quality K-8 math curriculum. We explore what such curriculum looks like; examine the proportion of school districts that have adopted it; and surface the patterns and trends underway in the market.
We focus on a subset of districts we call the Impact Core, which intentionally oversamples big districts and historically underserved students. Our findings suggest that a significant minority of these districts have adopted high-quality K-8 math curricula. But more optimistically, the market is gravitating towards higher-quality math curricula overall.
